If you have been vlogging for quite some time now, you are probably using a mini shotgun mic like the Rode Video Micro or the Boya BY-MM1. When Deity released the V-Mic D4 Duo, at first glance, it looked like just another mini shotgun microphone. But upon learning about it’s features, it had a unique one that solves one problem I have with my Boya BY-MM1 which is the audio quality when talking behind the microphone.

What’s included in the Box

  • microphone capsule
  • shock mount with a cold shoe adapter
  • 2 dead cat wind covers (one large for the front and one small for the rear)
  • a 3.5mm TRS to TRS cable meant for DSLRs, mirrorless, and action cameras

Features

The Deity D4 Duo, a mini shotgun on camera microphone, is perfect for vlogging or recording interviews because it has two built-in mics. One pointing towards the front and one pointing towards the back.

The rear microphone is optimized to work best within arm’s length, like when you’re holding a camera in front of your face, and it records at a quieter volume level than the front mic (-10db less).

There is a switch to be able to use either just the front mic or use both the front and the rear mic.

3.5mm Input Jack

Another unique feature of this microphone is the ability to plug in another mic, like a lavalier mic, to the D4 Duo’s Input jack. When a mic is plugged into this input jack and the toggle is switched to the 2 microphones mode, the mic that you plug into the input jack takes the place of the rear microphone of the Deity D4 Duo.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a microphone for less than PHP 5,000 then the Deity D4 Duo might be for you. Especially if you don’t mind doing post production audio work since you’re dealing with more than 1 audio source. Also, the ability to add another mic to the recording via the input jack makes this mic very versatile.

If you are just in the market for a regular mini shotgun mic and do not have the budget for the D4 Duo, then I would highly recommend the Boya BY-MM1. It’s a good quality mic for a very reasonable price.
